The BCS National Championship Game

For years, college football teams slogged it out on the playing field, game after game, in the hopes of weaving together that perfect, undefeated season, and of doing so with the swagger, class, and MVP caliber players that would ultimately convince the powers that be to vote in their favor for their bid to return to their campus heroes, by taking the rare, elusive, and ill-defined National Championship trophy.

The BCS system was enacted in 1998 to change all of that controversy, and though some fans were dubious, it started off well-enough. That is until 2003, when the BCS ranking system selected the #3 ranked University of Oklahoma to participate over the USC Trojans, who held the #1 rank in the AP Writers Poll.

Imperfections aside, the system did establish what is usually the Gran’ Daddy of all bowl games, and extend the bowl season by about a week, giving college football fans one more thing to scream about.
