2002 - Damien Oliver rode Media Puzzle and won the race. It was a bittersweet win as Damian's brother had passed away only weeks before.
2006 - Delta Blues became the first Japanes horse to win the Melbourne Cup in 2006, Surprisingly, the horse it beat, Pop Rock, was also a Japanese nag.
