Phoenix Open 16th Hole

Often times at the 16^th hole at TPC Scottsdale, when the Waste Management Phoenix Open is in town, one can get the impression that many of the 10,000 or so spectators are vaguely – if at all – aware that there may be a golf match going on, much less one happening on the green just beside the bleachers where they are standing.

PGA golf can be stuffy at times, but this event has turned that culture on its head, at least at this par three, where it is said that the party is better than any happy hour in Phoenix or Scottsdale combined, and on par with any outdoor festival in the land.

The “Sweet 16^th” at Scottsdale is legendary. The final match of the open has historically been held on Super Bowl Sunday, so it’s safe to say that the sports fans in attendance are ramping up for a big day. And in Phoenix, they’ve likely already had a pretty big week.
