Facts and Links
In the 1987 championship in Czechoslovakia, a violent brawl broke out between Canada and the Soviet Union, resulting in both teams being ejected from the tournament.
In 2008, Canadian Matt Halischuck scored a game winning goal in overtime to defeat the Swedes.
While Canada has the most gold medals at 15, Russia (formerly the Soviet Union) has the most overall medals at 28.
The main tournament features the top ten ranked hockey programs in the world; however, there are three lower division pools of teams.
