The Davis Cup Final

Contested between teams of players from more than 120 counties competing in a knock-out format, the Davis Cup, the premier team event in men’s tennis, is the world’s largest international team competition in sport.

Hosted by the International Tennis Federation, the event began in 1900 as a competition between teams from the United States and Great Britain, and has since expanded widely to include teams from all corners of the globe.

The first match was held at Longwood Cricket Club in Boston, and US has held up well over the years with 32 wins and 29 runners up, followed closely by Australian teams with 28 wins and 19 runners up.

Davis Cup competition is spread over four weekends throughout the calendar year. Elimination rounds between competing nations are held in one of the competing countries.

Competition is stiff, with the event comprised of a field that truly represent the best that men’s tennis has to offer, and the final match representing a culmination of a long season of trials.
