Dodger Stadium

When you visit Dodger Stadium, if you look up the address, you’ll find that it is located at 1000 Elysian Fields Avenue. Typical Los Angeles.

Finished in 1962, it’s the third oldest in Major League Baseball, and stands tall and unique in an era of sparkly, pre-fab parks. Let’s just say the fans love the place.

But it wasn’t easy. Brooklyn Dodger owner Walter O’Malley tried for years to work with the New York City officials to build in the Borough of Brooklyn. Talks fell through and O’Malley looked farther afield. In Los Angeles, he found friendly city and county officials, but securing the land brought challenges.

Many homeowners held out for 10 years – a controversy termed the Battle of Chavez Ravine, for the location of the land plot – but eventually the stadium was built. It remains one of 13 major league parks without a corporate sponsored name, an is one of the last original baseball-only stadiums – designed before the advent of multi-purpose facilities.
