The French Open

Held over two weeks in late-May and early-June in Paris, the French Open is the only Grand Slam still holding out on the clay courts and one of the most prestigious events in professional tennis today.

The tournament is held at the Stade Roland Garris, just south of beautiful Paris, and offers a wealth of tennis action coupled with the dazzling City of Light as a backdrop. An important side note – if you travel to Paris and need directions to the tournament, ask for the “Roland Garris,” as only outside of France is the event referred to as the “French Open.”

The competition is fierce at Roland Garris – clay courts play slow and as such the matches are some of the more physically demanding in tennis – a dynamic that attracts one of the largest broadcast audiences in international sport, especially for the finals. By that time the competitors have been chipping away at each other for the better part of two weeks, and though capacities may be dwindling, championship drive is in high gear.
