On the final Saturday in November, at the New Orleans Superdome, the Big Easy gets hard. The Bayou Classic – the annual matchup between the Grambling State University Tigers and the Southern University Jaguars – has been held since 1974.

The first ever Bayou Classic was played in New Orleans' Tulane Stadium in 1974. There were 76,753 fans in attendance to witness the birth of a unique and treasured pastime.
Grambling's 43-6 victory in 1980 ranks number 1 in the largest margin of victory in the series.
The Bayou Classic is the only NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) game to be shown regularly on broadcast television. Both schools typically forgo Division I-AA playoff eligibility to participate in the Bayou Classic
