The Kraft Nabisco Championship is held annually on the pristine greens of Mission Hills Country Club in beautiful Rancho Mirage, California, just outside of the Joshua Tree National Monument.

The event is one of the four majors for the LPGA, and commands a purse of $2 million and a guaranteed qualification for the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship at the Houstonian Golf & Country Club in Texas.

In 1988, that year’s winner began the tradition of jumping into the Poppy’s Pond,” a lake next to the eighteenth green, after having received her trophy.

The shenanigans took everyone – broadcasters, players, and hosts – by surprise, and were not fully or officially embraced by event organizers until 1994. The jump has since become a yearly tradition, and the event a bit of a destination in its own right.
