Texas vs. Oklahoma Football Game

Austin, Texas, the state’s capitol and the home of the University of Texas Longhorns, gets a crooked glance from most of its Southern neighbors, even the ones inside of Texas, like Houston and Dallas.

That’s because Austin is commonly regarded as a bastion of pinko-liberals by much of the rest of the state, and pretty much all of the south.

Oklahoma, Texas’ neighbor to the north, is just up the Red River from Austin, to the tune of about 380 miles. The two teams first met in 1900 at the Texas state fair when Oklahoma was a mere territory, and they have collided nearly every year since.

Uniquely, the teams split game tickets down the middle, creating the odd circumstance of one side of the stadium being ecstatic while the other is suffering in abject misery.

And although the game is played in Dallas – approximately equidistant between Austin and Norman – there is still a distinct hometown feel because of the huge number of fans who travel to see the game.
