FIS Alpine World Ski Championships

The FIS – the International Ski Federation – began holding its world championships in 1931. The bulk of the events have historically been in Europe, but interruptions during the Second World War and the occasional trip across the pond to the US have been know to occur.

For some years, the event was folded into the Winter Olympics, with many of the skiers competing in both events prior to the integration.

These days, the FIS Alpine World Championships are the most exciting skiing on the globe. The FIS determines the World, Europa and North-AM cups, so the races fun fast and its skiing to win.

The event travels far afield, but you’re nearly guaranteed that it will occur in the Northern Hemisphere.

Only in 1966 did it occur in the south, in Portillo, Chile, in August.

In the states events have taken place at Lake Placid, Aspen, Vail, and Beavercreek. The European Alps play excellent hosts as well, with regular occurrences in France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain.
