IAAF World Championships in Athletics

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the World Championships in Athletics has had an unorthodox history.

In 1913, the IAAF deemed the Olympics suitable of carrying the Athletics torch, and the status quo remained for some fifty years until the ground swelled with support for the diversity of sport found only in the World Championships in Athletics.

And so a resurgence occurred. The list of sports can include anything that thrives on the challenge of one’s rivals, and the joy found in self-improvement through athletics.

The list includes some interesting events. From traditional track and field competition, the menu diverges into cross country and road running races to mountain running and race walking contests.

The competitions in the World Championships in Athletics tend to trace their roots to prehistoric times, with an emphasis on challenges that early man may have found, whether it be mountain running on less than ideal, flat conditions, or the endurance required in ultrarunning, with a course that clocks in 42 Km, longer than a traditional marathon.
