When the AVP Tour announced last week that it was cancelling the rest of its season for financial reasons, the immediate thought was: What about Manhattan? The crown jewel, the "Granddaddy" of beach volleyball couldn't be cancelled, particularly as it was ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Well, the good -- no great -- news is that the city of Manhattan stepped up and the tourney will go on. Even better, the MBO will go back to its roots of side out scoring, lawn chairs instead of bleachers, and no admissions charge. And the players will play for pride and the ...
